Installation Notes

Professional engine builder or mechanic installation is strongly recommended:

1. Ensure engine is cool – Allow the engine to cool completely before disassembly.

2. Disconnect battery – Always disconnect the negative terminal before working.

3. Drain engine oil – Drain the engine oil into a suitable container.

4. Remove timing chain cover – Remove the timing chain cover to access the camshaft gear and timing chain.

5. Set engine to TDC – Rotate the crankshaft to set the No. 1 cylinder to top dead center (TDC) on the compression stroke. Align all timing marks.

6. Remove timing chain – Remove the timing chain tensioner and carefully remove the timing chain from the camshaft gear.

7. Remove the old camshaft gear – Use a proper gear puller to remove the old gear from the camshaft. Do not pry or hammer on the gear teeth.

8. Inspect the camshaft – Check the camshaft keyway and mounting surface for wear, scoring, or damage; replace if necessary.

9. Clean all components – Thoroughly clean the camshaft, timing chain, and related components; remove all old oil and debris.

10. Install the new camshaft gear – Align the keyway with the camshaft key and press the new gear onto the camshaft using a proper driver. Ensure it is fully seated.

11. Install the timing chain – Route the timing chain around the camshaft gear and crankshaft gear according to the timing marks. Ensure all marks are aligned.

12. Install timing chain tensioner – Install and adjust the timing chain tensioner to specification.

13. Check timing marks – Verify all timing marks are correctly aligned per manufacturer specifications.

14. Reinstall timing chain cover – Install a new gasket and reinstall the timing chain cover; torque bolts to specification.

15. Refill with engine oil – Fill with the correct grade and quantity of engine oil.

16. Start and test – Start the engine; listen for abnormal timing noise and verify proper engine operation.

17. Road test – Test drive to verify proper engine performance and no abnormal noise or vibration.
