Product Description
ISUZU NKR Rear Crankshaft Oil Seal 8-97049146-0 8970491460 OEM Fit
Product Overview

Rear Crankshaft Oil Seal 8-97049146-0 8970491460 for ISUZU NKR NPR TFR TFS 4JB1 4JG2 4JA1 — Verified OEM Fit 95×118×10 mm NBR/FKM Rear Main Seal

This rear crankshaft oil seal with OEM numbers 8-97049146-0 and 8970491460 is a verified direct-fit replacement for ISUZU NKR/NPR/TFR/TFS/ELF light trucks and pickups, as well as Holden Rodeo/Colorado, Opel Campo/Monterey, and Vauxhall Brava/Monterey models equipped with 4JB1/4JG2/4JA1/4JX1/4ZA1/4FC1/4FG1 diesel engines.

Working Principle

The rear crankshaft oil seal creates a dynamic seal between the rotating crankshaft and stationary engine block/flywheel housing. It retains engine oil within the crankcase while preventing external contaminants from entering the clutch or flywheel area.

The dual-lip design features a primary sealing lip that maintains contact with the crankshaft surface under spring tension, and a secondary dust lip that blocks water, mud, and debris. The NBR (Nitrile Butadiene Rubber) or FKM (Fluoroelastomer) construction provides excellent resistance to engine oil, high temperatures, and compression set.

Failure Symptoms

Replace the rear crankshaft oil seal when any of these symptoms appear:

  • Engine oil leakage between engine and transmission — visible oil traces at bell housing or dripping from transmission area
  • Oil contamination on clutch disc or flywheel — causing slipping or chatter
  • Oil accumulation at bottom of bell housing — indicates seal lip failure
  • Low engine oil level without visible external leaks elsewhere — gradual oil loss
  • Visible cracks, swelling, or hardening of rubber — indicates aging and loss of elastic properties
Critical Inspection Note: ISUZU service manuals require that the rear crankshaft oil seal be replaced, never reused, whenever the transmission or flywheel is removed. The seal must be installed using a specialized installer tool and coated with clean engine oil before installation.

Important Fitment Notes:
  • This oil seal is designed for the 95×118×10 mm application
  • The 8-97049146-0 is the rear crankshaft oil seal (transmission side) — NOT the front crankshaft seal
  • Oil seals should be replaced whenever the transmission or flywheel is removed
  • For right-hand drive (RHD) vehicles, verify clearance and orientation
Fitment Verification: To ensure 100% accurate matching, please provide the VIN or chassis number before ordering. We will verify it through the ISUZU global EPC system.

Installation & Maintenance
IMPORTANT: Engine rear seal service must be performed by a qualified technician. Always support the vehicle on a hoist and support the engine/transmission before removing the transmission. Never reuse old oil seals.
Installation Guidelines
  1. Preparation: Raise vehicle on hoist. Support engine with lifting device. Remove transmission from engine.
  2. Removal: Remove flywheel or flex plate. Remove old oil seal using seal puller or pry bar.
  3. Inspection: Inspect crankshaft sealing surface for wear, scoring, or pitting.
  4. Cleaning: Clean crankshaft surface and flywheel housing bore thoroughly.
  5. Installation: Coat new oil seal lip with clean engine oil. Use seal driver to press seal into flywheel housing until fully seated.
  6. Flywheel Installation: Reinstall flywheel or flex plate. Tighten bolts to specification.
  7. Final Check: Check engine oil level. Run engine and check for oil leakage.
  8. Road Test: Lower vehicle and perform road test to verify no oil leakage.
Maintenance Schedule
  • Every 10,000 km: Inspect rear main seal area for oil leakage. Check engine oil level.
  • Every 40,000-50,000 km: Inspect rear main seal and flywheel housing for oil residue.
  • Whenever transmission is removed: Always replace rear crankshaft oil seal with new unit.
  • When clutch slippage is detected: Inspect rear main seal immediately.
