- Inspect the new idle gear shaft journal for scratches or corrosion; verify oil passage is clear
- Install the idle gear shaft into the timing gear case locating bore, aligning the oil passage hole and dowel pin
- Install the idler gear and thrust plate; confirm gear mesh clearance is within specification
- Tighten idle gear shaft mounting bolts in a diagonal sequence to specified torque 31 N·m (3.2 kgf·m / 23 lb ft)
