Installation & Maintenance Recommendations
⚠️ IMPORTANT: Idle gear shaft installation requires professional tools and experience. Professional installation is strongly recommended. Disconnect the negative battery terminal before installation. Ensure the engine is completely cool.
Installation Guidelines

Refer to ISUZU 6HK1/4HK1 workshop manual for exact specifications:

  1. Clean the timing gear case interior; inspect the idle gear shaft mounting bore for wear or damage
  2. Inspect the new idle gear shaft journal for scratches or corrosion; verify oil passage is clear
  3. Install the idle gear shaft into the timing gear case locating bore, aligning the oil passage hole and dowel pin
  4. Install the idler gear and thrust plate; confirm gear mesh clearance is within specification
  5. Tighten idle gear shaft mounting bolts in a diagonal sequence to specified torque 31 N·m (3.2 kgf·m / 23 lb ft)
  6. Install the timing gear case cover; fill engine oil to the standard level
  7. Start the engine and check for abnormal noise from the timing gear train
Maintenance Schedule
  • Inspect timing gear train noise and oil condition every 40,000 km
  • Inspect idle gear shaft wear at 80,000-100,000 km or upon timing gear noise
  • Under normal maintenance conditions, 6HK1/4HK1 idle gear shafts can exceed 200,000 km service life (varies by operating conditions and maintenance quality)
  • Engine oil change recommended every 10,000-15,000 km to ensure proper timing gear train lubrication
