Installation Notes

Professional mechanic installation is essential for safety:

1. Ensure vehicle is safely raised – Use appropriate jack stands to support the vehicle; remove the rear wheel.

2. Remove the brake drum – Remove the brake drum to access the wheel cylinder and brake shoes.

3. Remove the brake shoes – Carefully remove the brake shoe assembly; note the spring and hardware positions.

4. Disconnect the brake line – Disconnect the brake fluid line from the wheel cylinder; cap the line to prevent fluid loss.

5. Remove the old wheel cylinder – Unbolt the wheel cylinder from the backing plate.

6. Inspect the backing plate – Check the backing plate for damage, wear, or corrosion.

7. Install the new wheel cylinder – Position the new cylinder on the backing plate; install mounting bolts.

8. Torque mounting bolts – Tighten bolts to manufacturer torque specifications.

9. Reconnect the brake line – Reconnect the brake line to the new cylinder; torque the fitting to specification.

10. Reinstall brake shoes – Reinstall the brake shoe assembly with new springs and hardware.

11. Adjust brake shoes – Adjust the brake shoe-to-drum clearance to manufacturer specification.

12. Reinstall the brake drum – Install the brake drum; ensure proper fit and adjustment.

13. Bleed the brake system – Bleed the brake system to remove air; start with the wheel furthest from the master cylinder.

14. Check for leaks – Inspect all connections for fluid leaks; ensure the cylinder is not leaking.

15. Test brake pedal – Pump the brake pedal; ensure firm pedal feel and proper pedal height.

16. Road test – Test the brakes at low speed in a safe area; verify proper stopping performance.
