Product Description
Crankshaft Position Sensor 8973061131 8-97306113-1 for ISUZU 4HK1 6HK1
Product Overview

The Crankshaft Position Sensor (CKP Sensor) with OEM numbers 8973061131 / 8-97306113-1 (DENSO cross-reference 029600-1290) is a verified direct-fit replacement for ISUZU 4HK1 / 6HK1 series diesel engines. This sensor is one of the most critical signal inputs to the Engine Control Module (ECU), widely used in ISUZU 700P / NPR / NQR / NKR series trucks and Hitachi ZAX200-3 / ZAX240-3 heavy excavators.

How It Works

The Crankshaft Position Sensor (CKP) is located on the flywheel housing at the left rear corner of the engine and is a magnetic pulse-type sensor. The flywheel periphery has 45 projections equally spaced every 7.5°, with one space (equal to 3 projections) serving as a Top Dead Center (TDC) reference signal. The sensor detects the pulse signals generated as the projections pass by. The ECU calculates engine speed and the exact crankshaft angular position based on these 45 pulses and the TDC reference signal. The ECU uses these signals to precisely control fuel injection timing, fuel quantity, and ignition (for gasoline engines), ensuring stable engine operation, optimal power output, and fuel efficiency.

Failure Symptoms
Replace immediately if any occur:
  • Hard Starting -- Engine difficult to start, especially when hot
  • Starts Then Stalls -- Engine starts but stalls after a few seconds of operation
  • Rough Idle / Vibration -- Severe shaking and unstable idle
  • Poor Acceleration / Power Loss -- Sluggish throttle response; reduced engine output
  • Check Engine Light -- MIL illuminated; ECU stores DTCs P0335/P0336
  • No Start -- Engine completely fails to start when ECU receives no crankshaft position signal

Important Notes
  • The crankshaft position sensor is one of the ECU's most critical signal inputs -- failure results in engine no-start or severe operational issues
  • If the vehicle exhibits hard starting, rough idle, or poor acceleration, the crankshaft position sensor should be the first component checked
  • Recommended to inspect the sensor harness and connector simultaneously -- ensure proper contact, no open/short circuits
  • Ensure the air gap between sensor and flywheel ring gear meets workshop manual specifications during installation
  • For 100% accurate fitment, please provide VIN (Chassis Number) or engine model

Installation & Maintenance Recommendations
⚠️ IMPORTANT:

The crankshaft position sensor is a critical component of the engine control system. Improper installation may cause sensor damage or signal abnormality, resulting in engine no-start. Installation should be performed by qualified professionals. Always disconnect the battery negative terminal before installation.

Installation Guidelines

(Refer to workshop manual):

  1. Safety Prep : Disconnect battery negative cable; ensure engine is cooled
  2. Locate Sensor : Crankshaft position sensor is located on the flywheel housing at the left rear corner
  3. Disconnect Connector : Press latch release; disconnect sensor electrical connector
  4. Remove Old Sensor : Remove mounting bolt; carefully pull out old sensor (do not damage sensor tip)
  5. Clean Mounting Hole : Thoroughly clean mounting hole of oil and debris
  6. Inspect O-Ring : Check O-ring seal on new sensor is intact
  7. Install New Sensor : Insert new sensor into mounting hole; ensure fully seated
  8. Tighten Bolt : Torque mounting bolt to workshop manual specification (must use torque wrench)
  9. Connect Connector : Plug 3-pin connector back into sensor; ensure latch clicks
  10. Clear Fault Codes : Use diagnostic tool to clear old fault codes from ECU
  11. Test Run : Start engine -- confirm normal start, smooth idle, no MIL
