Installation Notes

Professional installation required. Proper engine assembly is critical:

1. Disconnect battery — Disconnect the negative battery cable before beginning work

2. Drain engine oil — Drain the engine oil completely

3. Remove the cylinder head — Remove the cylinder head for access to the piston

4. Remove the oil pan — Remove the oil pan for access to the connecting rod

5. Remove the old piston — Remove the connecting rod cap and carefully push the piston/rod assembly out

6. Inspect the cylinder bore — Check the cylinder bore for wear, scoring, or damage; hone or rebore if necessary

7. Inspect the connecting rod — Check for wear or damage; replace if necessary

8. Clean thoroughly — Clean all components and oil passages

9. Install new piston rings — Install new rings on the new piston, ensuring proper ring gap orientation

10. Lubricate the piston — Apply engine oil or assembly lube to the piston and rings

11. Install the piston/rod assembly — Carefully install the assembly into the cylinder

12. Install the connecting rod cap — Install the rod cap and torque bolts to manufacturer specification

13. Check bearing clearance — Verify connecting rod bearing clearance per service manual

14. Reinstall the oil pan — Install the oil pan with a new gasket

15. Reinstall the cylinder head — Install the cylinder head with a new head gasket

16. Refill with fresh oil — Fill the engine with the correct grade and type of oil

17. Reconnect battery — Reconnect the negative battery cable

18. Start the engine — Start the engine and check for unusual noise or vibration

19. Break-in procedure — Follow the manufacturer's recommended break-in procedure
