1. Allow engine to cool – Ensure the engine is completely cool before beginning work
2. Disconnect battery – Disconnect the negative battery cable before beginning work
3. Drain coolant – Drain the cooling system completely
4. Remove the drive belt – Loosen and remove the drive belt from the water pump pulley
5. Remove the fan shroud and fan – Remove the fan and shroud for access to the water pump
6. Remove the old water pump – Unbolt and carefully remove the water pump from the engine block
7. Remove old gasket material – Clean the engine block mounting surface, removing all old gasket material
8. Inspect the cooling system – Check the thermostat, hoses, and radiator for wear or damage
9. Clean mounting surface – Thoroughly clean the engine block mounting surface
10. Prepare the new pump – Inspect the new pump and verify it matches the original
11. Position the new gasket – Place the included new gasket on the engine block
12. Install the new water pump – Position the new pump and secure with mounting bolts
13. Torque to specification – Tighten bolts to manufacturer specification in a crisscross pattern
14. Reinstall fan and shroud – Reinstall the fan, shroud, and drive belt
15. Adjust belt tension – Adjust the drive belt tension to manufacturer specification
16. Refill coolant – Refill the cooling system with the correct type and mixture of coolant
17. Bleed air from the system – Bleed air from the cooling system as per the service manual
18. Reconnect battery – Reconnect the negative battery cable
19. Check for leaks – Start the engine and inspect for any coolant leakage around the pump
