  3. Remove the old oil pump - Disconnect the pickup tube and remove the pump mounting bolts
  4. Remove the drive gear - Remove the oil pump drive gear or coupling from the crankshaft
  5. Inspect the drive components - Check the drive gear and crankshaft drive for wear; replace as needed
  6. Clean the mounting area - Thoroughly clean the engine block mounting surface and surrounding areas
  7. Inspect the pickup tube - Check the oil pickup tube and screen for blockage or damage
  8. Prepare the new pump - Install the drive gear onto the new pump if not pre-installed
  9. Check pump rotation - Verify the pump rotates freely and in the correct direction
