Installation Notes

Installation steps (overview for steering gear replacement):

  1. Safely lift and support the front of the vehicle
  2. Drain power steering fluid or catch spillage
  3. Remove the pitman arm from the old steering gear (use a puller)
  4. Disconnect the steering column universal joint from the input shaft
  5. Disconnect hydraulic lines (pressure and return). Cap lines
  6. Remove mounting bolts and remove the old steering gear
  7. Compare new gear with old - check input shaft spline, pitman arm taper, mounting holes
  8. Transfer the pitman arm (or use a new one). Torque the pitman arm nut to specification
  9. Install new steering gear, torque mounting bolts to specification
  10. Reconnect hydraulic lines (use new O-rings/seals). Torque fittings
  11. Reconnect steering column universal joint
  12. Refill power steering fluid and bleed the system (turn wheels lock-to-lock with engine off, then on)
  13. Check for leaks and verify steering operation
